AUGH + Meme

Can someone PLEASE explain to my brain that I don't have time to write more Psmith-fic?! Especially Psmith/Eve fic?! That would require rereading Leave it to Psmith, which I really, really, don't have time for. Augh. My brain hates me. ): Expect new fic within the week XD

On a related note, here's a meme I did a while back. I don't know why I didn't post it sooner...

Choose ten fictional characters and answer the following questions.

1. Bertie Wooster
2. Psmith
3. Mike Jackson
4. Ford Prefect
5. Reginald Jeeves
6. Arthur Dent
7. Sherlock Holmes
8. Inspector G. Lestrade
9. Zaphod Beeblebrox
10. John H. Watson

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Lancer (second-in-command), Big Guy, Smart Guy, The Chick? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

(O HAI, tvtropes! XD There goes my free-time.)

Team 1 - Bertie, Mike, Jeeves, Holmes, Zaphod.
Team 2 - Psmith, Ford, Arthur, Lestrade, Watson.

Well, Team 1 has Jeeves and Holmes, so I think they win. Zaphod would automatically assume himself to be the leader, Mike is used to playing second-in-command (as it were) to Psmith, so he would probably take that role, Jeeves and Holmes could play chess for the role of Smart Guy, and... Oh dear. Poor Bertie. He's either the Big Guy or the Chick. Hm.

2. Gender-swap 2, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

*sporfle* Well... If Psmith was a woman, I could at least tell my friends that I ship him/her and Mike. XD I'm not sure if his personality would change much or not, but as far as storyline goes, I'm guessing he/she would have still been single at the end of "Leave it to Psmith."

Lestrade probably wouldn't be on the policeforce, which means he/she probably wouldn't even be in the Holmes stores. D:

As for Watson, some Holmesian scholars would be punching the air and shouting "We told you!" (Incidentally, I'm not among them.)

3. Compare the matchups of 1 & 8 and 5 & 9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.) Which couple would be more compatible? Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principle's home culture?

Um. Yeah, neither would be what you'd call 'plausible,' but Jeeves and Zaphod would certainly be more epic...

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 9. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Social - Zaphod
Physical - Mike
Mental - Ford

5. 7 becomes 1's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Not good. Holmes would go insane if he was alone with Bertie for five minutes, I'm sure.

6. 2 finds him/her/itself inserted into 6's continuity. As far as anyone other than 2 or 6 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 2 be presumed to have had in 6's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

"Wh -? Oh, um, yes - many times have Comrade, er, Dent and I shared a drink or two at the pub, and he always appeared to me to be a reasonably honorable man, but I rather think he must have slipped some undesirable substance into my glass the last time we partook in making merry... Oh! In my confusion, I forgot to mention - I'm sure I'm dreaming, but I dislike the unhappiness of others even in fantasy - there's a metal chap standing in the hallway complaining about something he calls diodes - ought'nt someone go and see what the trouble is?"

(The phrase "without going wonky" does not exist within any story involving Wodehouse characters, BTW. And I know I can't write Psmith's dialogue for crap. I imagine he's a bit out of it, though, what with suddenly finding himself in space and all.)

7. 3 and 5 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

I imagine they'd each give the other a wish to make for himself, and then agree on the last one, so -

1. Bertie's tailor finds he is no longer able to work, and Jeeves helps him locate a more suitable one.
2. Psmith becomes bullet-proof (I don't think Mike was very happy with him ticking gangsters off and getting shot at in Psmith, Journalist. And he's smart enough to know it will probably happen again.)
3. Girls leave Bertie and Psmith alone.

(I love Eve, BTW. It's all in good fun.)

8. 1 and 2 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 4. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 4 survive? How?

Seeing as Ford can, you know, travel in outer-space, I'd say he has a pretty good chance.

9. 6, 7, 9 & 10 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Zaphod tells the kids stories of his epic travels and adventures.

Holmes teaches them chess and plays the violin.

Arthur makes tea and snacks.

Watson is kind-hearted enough to put on a false beard and padded coat, although the kids are somewhat concerned by the fact that Santa seems to be limping. Holmes berates him later for carrying the gigantic sack of presents, what with his wounded shoulder and all.

10. 3 and 8 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

I hate to do Mike an injustice, but I'm not sure how he would fare on that sort of adventure without Psmith to take the lead. As for the transportation, the two of them even being together on that sort of journey probably required some time travel. And the TARDIS was invented before 1900. On some planets. ;)

Write a ficof fifteen words or less for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do step one.

Same character list.

        prompts ►

        o1. AU - 5 & 9
Zaphod blinked at the Englishmen - one looking terrified, the other mildly interested. "Zarking improbability drive..."
        o2. Dark - 3 & 4
Space was dark. Really dark. Mike clawed blindly at nothing, gasping for air that wasn't there. He felt a hand close around his wrist, and then he was being pulled into the ship.
        o3. Threesome - 1, 5, & 7
Bertie always felt a bit left out when they started discussing anything more complex than music.
        o4. Amnesia - 2 & 10
Psmith knew something was wrong. For one thing, he could remember nothing of the last few days. For another, he was certain that Sherlock Holmes and John H. Watson could not possibly be discussing a case next to his hospital bed. ("That friend of yours is really something, Mr. Smith," a nurse remarked later. "Came in and read out loud to you for hours yesterday.")
        o5. Hurt/Comfort - 6 & 8
"Come on, sir, out of the road. Looks like you've taken quite a hit on the head; I'm sure getting trampled by horses won't help matters. What? Well, yes, I'm sure we can find some tea at the station."
        o6. Crackfic - 4 & 9
You know, anything I can think of strikes me as being at least a little plausible in the H2G2 universe. Sorry.
        o7. Genderswap - 2 & 6
"This is a regular occurance, then?"
"Well, not this exactly. The improbability drive plays havoc with everything, not just gender."
        "But it is temporary?"
        "Oh, yes, quite."
        o8. First Time - 2 & 7
The first time Smith (he had not yet added the silent 'P' to the beginning) had an inkling that he was somewhat unusual was when he found that he knew the explanation before reading the end of the story.
        o9. Angst - 3 & 8
The Yard had been mostly quiet all day. This quiet was shattered by a young man bursting through the door, holding a monocle'd and rather limp companion in his arms, screaming for help and trying to stem the flow of blood from the other's side.
(Once again, just assume time travel was involved.)
        o1o. Babyfic - 1
His eyes never seemed to grow older with the rest of him. They remained babyishly wide and bright and perfectly blue throughout his life.
